The Port Carling Golf & Country Club is located on 270 acres of land nestled in the rugged Canadian Shield of Muskoka. Situated in the beautiful town of Port Carling which is known as “The Hub of the Muskoka Lakes”. The course boasts rich deciduous and coniferous forests surrounded with granite out-croppings, streams and lakes. The unique 18 hole course was designed by world class architects Thomas McBroom and Associates and is one of the most spectacular and picturesque clubs in Canada with some of the finest facilities available.
Port Carling Golf & Country Club has had a renaissance under the new ownership of Michael H. DeGroote, who admits to being “a little addicted” to the game. DeGroote has contracted Thomas McBroom to breathe new life into his first solo design. McBroom says it is one of the toughest 6,400-yard par 70 courses in Canada, noting the natural beauty of the site gives each hole a unique and dramatic personality. In March and April of 2007, McBroom came in and dug up the first hole, raising the fairway and giving members a taste of the new bunker design. The look and playability of the hole received fabulous reviews. The work continued with the dynamiting and rebuilding of No. 4, the hole known as “The Wall” which was ready for play in June of 2008. Also completed in 2008 was the renovation of every bunker with new esthetically pleasing designs and very playable Temiska sand. In the fall of 2008 every putting surface was removed and re-sodded with A-4 premium bentgrass. To this day capital improvements to the entire facility continue with the construction of a new tee deck on # 17, a modern practice area for our limited space adjacent the parking area and constant upgrades to the clubhouse and furniture all to maximize member enjoyment.
The Club also stepped up its fine dining, which is another passion of DeGroote, making it a first class dining establishment with an unmatched Muskoka atmosphere, using only the highest quality products and serving the finest wines for all members and guests to enjoy.
